Our volunteer base is made up of men and women of varying ages and backgrounds. Students as young as 13 all the way up to seniors well into their 80s have given of their time and talent to provide you with an exceptional shopping experience. The truth is, we couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers. Over the years we’ve have more than 150 people help out at one time or another. Many of the folks you see today have been here since the beginning! You know you’ve got a good thing going when people hang around for that long!

There are volunteer opportunities in each department. We can use strong people in receiving, furniture delivery and pick ups. We need methodical people to distribute the donations to the various departments for pricing. Detail orientated people are needed to sort and price clothing and housewares. Stylists with a keen eye for design can create displays and keep the shelves tidy and organized. People with an innate sense of accuracy and customer care are a perfect fit for cashier!

Special Thanks to Our Past/Current Volunteers!

Each year we take the time to celebrate our volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Week in April. We also come together in October to enjoy a meal, share some memories and celebrate the good things happening in the store. We have a plaque posted commemorating volunteers who have passed away. The truth is our volunteers are the heart of the store. There is something different about a business staffed by volunteers. Each one comes to work intent on sharing their gifts and spreading happiness. They are there because they want to be, not because they are driven by a paycheck. They are doing things they enjoy and are good at which elevates the quality of workmanship. They are interacting with people they have chosen to befriend and that translates into a positive and encouraging environment.

Is all of the above true of every thrift store? I can’t say for sure. I do know it is true of Hope for Children Thrift Store. There is no doubt that our team rocks!
